Men's Water Polo Drops Pair

LA MIRADA, Calif. - The Austin College men's water polo teams dropped the first two games of its weekend trip to California on Saturday, falling 19-3 against Division I opponent UC San Diego and 12-10 against Division II foe Biola.

Max Wade got the 'Roos on the board early to help keep it a 2-1 game minutes into the team's game against No. 14-ranked UCSD, but the 'Roos would trail 7-1 after the opening quarter. Aiden Wade and Cade Griffith each scored in the second quarter to make it 9-3 at halftime, but UC San Diego scored 10 unanswered in the second half to make it a 19-3 final score. Alan Rosenberg had seven saves in goal for the 'Roos.

Griffith scored twice and Wade scored once in the opening quarter against Biola to help keep things close at 4-3 with the 'Roos trailing, and the teams would go into halftime with Biola holding a 6-4 advantage. Griffith scored his third goal of the game in the second quarter to keep things tight. Biola out-scored the 'Roos 4-2 in the third period to make it a 10-6 game, with Griffith and Andrew Galt getting on the board during that frame.

In the fourth quarter, the 'Roos mounted a comeback bid with four goals, but the team would come up short in the 12-10 defeat. Dylan McArthur scored once, Evan Cueva added a tally, and Griffith found the back of the cage two more times to finish off his big day on offense with six total goals. Rosenberg had 11 saves for Austin College.
