'Roos Go Unbeaten at Penn State-Behrend Invite

ERIE, Pa. - The Austin College men's water polo team put together the first unbeaten weekend in program history at the Penn State-Behrend Invite, going 3-0 with dominant wins over the host school along with Washington & Jefferson and Augustana. The 'Roos are now 4-4 overall, including 4-0 against Division III opponents.

The 'Roos kicked off the weekend with a 17-7 win over Washington & Jefferson, falling behind 3-2 after the first quarter but taking a 5-4 lead into halftime. Austin College turned it on in the second half, building to a 10-6 lead after three and out-scoring W&J 7-1 in the final period to make it a 17-7 final. Robert Griffin, Andrew Galt, and Tanner O'Dwyer each tallied twice in that decisive fourth quarter, and Griffin and Cade Griffith each finished with three goals in the game to pace Austin College. Galt and Alex Rodriguez each scored twice in a balanced attack that saw 10 different 'Roos find the back of the net.

Austin College erupted for 21 goals in the team's second game of the weekend against Penn State-Behrend, scoring at least five goals in ever quarter and never trailing for the duration. Griffin scored his lone goal early on to make it 1-0, and the 'Roos never looked back, building to a 5-3 lead after one and an 11-6 lead at halftime. Connor Watson found the net six times in the game to lead Austin College, and Max Wade scored five goals of his own. Dylan McArthur chipped in four tallies in the big victory to move the 'Roos to 2-0 on the weekend.

The 'Roos wrapped up the event with an 18-7 win over Augustana in another game in which the 'Roos never trailed. Austin College jumped out to a 3-0 lead and ended the first quarter leading 4-1, though Augustana managed to win quarter number two to trim the margin to 7-5 at halftime. However, the 'Roos continued their trend of being a dominant second half team, out-scoring Augustana 6-1 in the third and 5-1 in the fourth to put the game away and complete the weekend sweep. It was another balanced scoring attack for the 'Roos, with 11 players finding the net led by four goals from Wade and three from McArthur. Watson and Griffin each chipped in a pair of goals for Austin College in the victory.
