'Roos Edged by Ozarks in Road Meet

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - The Austin College men's and women's swim teams performed well on Saturday at the University of Ozarks, but both teams were edged out by the Eagles with the men falling 117-102 while the women fell 142-103.

The 'Roo women got off to a strong start in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Lauren Olivier, Sammi Thiele, Becca Tobias, and Cassidee Levine taking first with a time of 2:00.89. The men's team also took first in that event, as the quartet of Jayden Crews, Alex Lai, Sean Cookson, and Jonas Eaton touched with a time of 1:44.90. Lai and Cookson took first and second, respectively, in the 200 freestyle, with Lai finishing in a time of 1:54.90 and Cookson following at 2:00.67, and Olivier brought home a win for the women in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.57.

Thiele took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke, finishing nearly seven seconds ahead of her nearest competitor with a time of 1:10.86, and she added a first place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.11. Eaton added a first place finish in that same event on the men's side, coming in with a time of 23.00, while Cookson and Crews took second and third, respectively. Eaton added a win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.32, and Liberty Chanin delivered a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:27.16, more than nine seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Thiele continued her strong day in the 200 breaststroke, coming in first with a time of 2:31.97, and Chanin and Cookson each won the 500 free. Chanin touched with a time of 5:49.68 for the women, while Cookson finished in a time of 5:32.18 for the men. Tobias took first in the 100 butterfly, coming in with a time of 1:06.63, and Lai added a first place finish for the men in the 400 IM, touching with a time of 4:56.14.
