SHERMAN, Texas –The Austin College football team fell 14-0 in a defensive struggle against visiting Trinity University on Saturday at Jerry Apple Stadium. The loss brings Austin College's record to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in Southern Athletic Association play.

After a scoreless first quarter that saw the teams combine to punt it away on each of the first four possessions, the 'Roos and Tigers traded interceptions early in the second to keep the strong defensive efforts going. Trinity finally got on the board with 9:47 left before halftime, as Peyton Tuggle took a double-reverse 16 yards into the endzone to make it 7-0. Austin College was intercepted on its next possession and Trinity punted one more time, making it a one score game at the break. 

In the second half, Trinity doubled their lead early on when Wyatt Messex threaded a 14-yard pass into the back of the endzone to Chris Stewart, and the point after made it a 14-0 game. However, that would be the final score of the ballgame for either team. The teams punted on the next three possessions and TJ Melontree picked off Messex and brought it down to the Trinity 33-yard line, but the 'Roos turned it over on downs after getting the ball down to the five.

Trinity would punt on each of its next two possessions and Austin College turned it over on downs once and Collins was picked off in the endzone with 2:27 to play, icing the game for the Tigers.

Collins finished the game completing 11-of-32 passes for 127 yards and three interceptions and added 102 yards on 21 carries. Aaron Rideaux led the 'Roos with three catches for 34 yards, and Darius Hypolite made a game-high 10 tackles with a pair of pass breakups. Melontree added six stops with two picks. 

Messex completed 16-of-28 passes for 143 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, with Stewart catching five passes for 48 yards to lead the Trinity receivers. Evan McDowell carried 13 times for 58 yards, and Robert Kuhne led a balanced defensive effort for the Tigers with six tackles. 

Trinity managed just 307 yards of offense and Austin College had only 245 in the game, but the Tigers dominated time of possession, holding the ball for nearly 37 minutes. 

Austin College closes out the season next weekend against Rhodes as the 'Roos celebrate both Senior Day and Homecoming and Family Weekend at Apple Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
