Top-Ranked Tigers Remain Perfect with Sweep of Austin College

Box Score The Colorado College volleyball team utilized a balanced offensive attack and a solid defensive effort to record a 25-18, 25-23, 25-15 victory over Austin College in a battle of top-three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference teams on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena.

Isabella Vasquez and Georgia Mullins recorded 12 kills apiece to lead the No. 1 ranked Tigers to their ninth sweep in 11 matches.

Vasquez also led the Tigers with 14 kills to complete her third double-double of the season, all of which occurred during the last six matches.

Mullins, who hit .400 on 25 swings, also had a hand in five of CC's eight total blocks.

Their efforts helped Colorado College hold the 'Roos to a .094 team hitting percentage, which marked the sixth time this season the Tigers kept an opponent below .100.

CC leads the SCAC in opponent hitting percentage at .063.

Austin College was on the verge of becoming the third team to take a set from Colorado College when a kill by Olivia Linton gave the 'Roos an 18-16 lead in the first set. However, after a kill by Vasquez brought the serve back to CC, Mullins served eight straight points, including three aces, to give the Tigers a one-set lead.

The Tigers appeared to be cruising in the second set when they opened a 20-14 lead, but Austin rallied behind the hitting of Victoria Smith and closed the gap to just one point three different times. After her final kill trimmed Colorado College's lead to 24-23, Allie Freeburg gave the Tigers the set with a kill off a set from Vasquez.

With the momentum squarely on its side, CC raced to an early 7-2 lead in the third set. After the 'Roos pulled to within 9-6, Freeburg ignited a 10-2 run with a trio of kills and the Tigers never looked back as they closed out the set and match.

"I'm really proud of the way we pulled together and made some big plays when we needed to in order to come away with the sweep," head coach Rick Swan said. "Austin is a tall team with a big block that can frustrate hitters. We had some unforced errors, but made some great adjustments to finish out set two and took control of the match in set three."
