Texas Lutheran Tops Austin College for Second Straight Win

SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran picked up its second consecutive win with a convincing 37-15 victory over Austin College Saturday afternoon at Jerry Apple Stadium in Sherman, Texas.

After allowing a first quarter touchdown to Austin College, a 23-point second quarter from the Bulldogs swung the game in their favor as they would lead by double digits for most of the day.

TLU quarterback Seth Cosme (Angleton/Angleton) - who entered Saturday's contest fifth in all of Division-III in completion percentage (.748) - threw for 232 yards and a touchdown on 23-of-39 passing.

While Cosme was impactful through the air, it was the running back duo of Jacob Forton (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) and DaKory Willis (Flatonia/Flatonia) that paced the Bulldogs on the ground. Jacob Forton - who entered Saturday 18th in NCAA Division-III in total touchdowns with seven - found the end zone on three occasions on Saturday while rushing for a season-high 89 yards. DaKory Willis averaged 6.9 yards per carry to finish with 83 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Trent Stefka (Caldwell/Caldwell) and Keon Torello (St. Louis, MO/Austin Crockett) led Texas Lutheran with five receptions each. Aaron Sotelo (Castroville/Medina Valley) - who would only play in the first half due to injury - found the end zone for the third straight game, hauling in the Bulldogs lone receiving touchdown in the second quarter to get the Texas Lutheran scoring started.

Defensively, David Augustin (Missouri City/Willowridge) led the Bulldogs with eight tackles. Eugene Robinson IV (Lake Charles, LA/Fort Bend Hightower (TX)), Nile Pollard (Houston/Bush), Faustino Gonzales (Lockhart/Lockhart), and Joshua Stanton (Houston/Lamar) all had tackles for loss. Robinson finished with five tackles and a forced fumble. Texas Lutheran held Austin College to a season-low 262 yards while winning the turnover margin 2-0 by forcing and recovering two fumbles.

Texas Lutheran returns to Bulldog Stadium next Saturday as they welcome the defending NCAA Division-III National Champions, the 4th-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders, to Seguin on Saturday, Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 PM. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
