Upset Bid Falls Short at No. 20 Austin

Colorado College had No. 20 Austin College on the ropes late in the fourth quarter, but the 'Roos rallied with an 11-3 surge and escaped Hughey Gymnasium with a 64-61 victory on Friday night.

The Tigers took a 58-53 when McKenzee Gertz dialed long distance with 2:54 remaining in the game, but Kacie West scored five points during a 7-0 run that put Austin ahead.

After Jordan Meltzer's layup gave CC a 61-60 lead with 1:14 to play, the 'Roos went ahead to stay on a jumper by Ann Savage with 26 seconds remaining, and then Ally Longaker sank a pair of free throws to seal the victory.  

Colorado College had a 53-45 lead after Talia Cloud sank a pair of free throws with 6:50 to go, but the Tigers lost their inside presence when Rosie Braley and Cloud both fouled out in a three-minute span.

Austin led 43-39 after West canned a pair of free throws with 1:51 remaining in the third quarter, however CC responded with eight unanswered points capped by Gertz's triple to build a four-point lead after 30 minutes.

Gertz recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Jordan Meltzer finished with 12 points for the Tigers, reaching double-digits for the 12th time this season.

The 'Roos went 19-for-26 at the charity stripe, while Colorado College made only 12 of 22 free throws.

West led Austin with 16 points, while Savage posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Rosie Braley recorded eight points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 4:45 to go.
Talia Cloud finished with six points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 1:56 to play.
