Black Joins Elite Group at Austin

It was a bittersweet night for CooXooEii Black.

Black became the seventh player in the history of Colorado College men's basketball to record both 1,000 or more career points and 500 or more career rebounds, but the Tigers were eliminated from contention for a spot in the 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship.

After nearly erasing a 14-point deficit during the final 12 minutes, CC dropped a 72-68 decision on Saturday night at Austin College.

The Tigers dropped to 7-17 overall and 3-12 in the SCAC.

Black posted his sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He finished the night ranked 19th in program history with 1,089 points and 16th with 504 rebounds.

The junior forward grabbed his milestone rebound 8:25 into the second half when he pulled down a missed three-pointer by Scott Cunningham and scored on the put-back.

Freshman guard Aaron Acosta led Colorado College with 18 points, reaching double digits for the fifth time in the last seven games. He scored 16 points during the second half to fuel his team's comeback attempt.

Colorado College trailed 55-43 after Devin Roland scored with 8:18 remaining in the second half.

Senior guard Edmund Pendleton's three-point play ignited a 7-0 run that saw the Tigers cut their deficit to 56-51 when Acosta dialed long distance with 5:54 to go, but the 'Roos answered with five points to take a 10-point cushion with 4:57 left.

After junior guard Eric Jonas trimmed CC's deficit to 71-68 with 34 seconds remaining, Austin hit three of four free throws to close out the scoring.

Roland led the 'Roos with 20 points.

Kam Hogan added 14 points for Austin, while Justice Mercadel and Luke Brumbaugh added 12 apiece.

Austin went 9-for-21 from behind the arc while the Tigers were just 6-for-21.

The 'Roos also made nine of 15 free throw while CC sank four of five attempts at the charity stripe.

Colorado College plays its season finale next Saturday at Johnson & Wales University. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
