It all went the way of Biola, as the team nabbed its first win of 2023 in a rout of Austin College.

LA VERNE, Calif. --- Biola men's water polo opened up at the Inland Empire Classic with a bout against Austin College on Saturday morning. La Verne played host to the three-game day for BU, as the start could not have gone better. The Eagles (1-4) picked up win number one in 2023, defeating the AC Roos by a 22-8 final score.

With a long day ahead, the Eagles came out ready to play in their first matchup of Saturday. The team beat Austin College for the second-straight year but upping the margin of victory by 12.

The offense was humming from the jump, as the BU squad scored in its first possession of the contest. Roman Saroyan cashed in early, before a power play led to a 2-0 Eagles lead. Saroyan paced the Eagles in the scoring column in the contest. The freshman tallied four scores to help the team reach a season-high in goals.

Overall, the offensive effort was a well-rounded fight with plenty of Eagles getting in on the action. 11 different players scored for Biola, including seven student-athletes nabbing multiple tallies.

In the win for BU, the team delivered 22 goals on 29 shot attempts. The Roos took 24 attempts at the goal but Mitchell Carpenter and Joshua Dachenhausen combined for nine saves. 

The first quarter saw the biggest separation between the two teams. In the opening eight minutes, BU picked up seven goals compared to just one from the Roos. The stretch included five unanswered goals from the Eagles that ended the first.

Biola is right back in the pool in the afternoon on Saturday, facing No. 11 UC Santa Barbara at 2:00 pm.
