No. 24 Austin College tops Crusaders in Road Outing

SHERMAN, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team was defeated 81-40 on Saturday afternoon by No. 24 Austin College. Unlike the meeting in Irving this week, the 'Roos (15-2, 8-2 SCAC) scored a double-digit lead from the onset with 13 straight points. UD (3-14, 1-9 SCAC) got on the board at 6:20 with a Rhyan Colbert (McKinney, Texas) layup, but the home squad led 19-2 before a 7-0 for the Crusaders closed the gap to 10 at the end of the first quarter.

Austin College put the game beyond reach with 27 and 29 points, respectively, in the next two quarters while UD was limited to 12 and 10, respectively. Both teams tallied nine points in the final frame.

No players reached double figures for the Crusaders, but eight did record at least two points within the box score. Alex Parkey (Henrietta, Texas) also made her season debut with nine minutes. Beyonce Perry (Lake Jackson, Texas) posted a team-high eight points and added five rebounds and four assists. Gracie Williams (Midwest, Okla.) tossed in seven points, while Vanessa Diaz (San Antonio, Texas) led all participants on the glass with eight.

Dallas shot 29.1 percent from the field and were 3-17 from three. They committed 27 turnovers. The rebounding battle was tight with UD edged 42-39.

Austin College posted a 43.7 field goal percentage and made eight treys. AC also went 82.4 percent at the free throw line with a 14-17 display. The team came up with 16 steals and only had 10 miscues.

Natalie McCoy led the offense with 14 points, while Kacie West and Ally Longaker followed respectively with 13 and 12. Ann Savage matched Maddy Hubych with seven rebounds to tie the team-high and Savage dished six assists.
