Rodriguez and Mencacci Goals lift Crusaders to 2-1 Road Victory at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's soccer team won on the road against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) rival Austin College on Saturday. Dallas won the game 2-1 on a pair of goals by Maddie Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) and Alyssa Mencacci (League City, Texas).

Dallas held a shooting advantage over Austin in both total shots, 12-7, and shots on goal, 9-3. However, Austin had a commanding advantage on corner kicks ending the game with a total of seven corners to UD's zero.

The two teams combined for 32 fouls in the game and Austin was tagged with three yellow cards.

UD went up 1-0 in the 43rd minute as Rodriguez on a free kick that just slipped inside the right post. Dallas extended the lead to 2-0 on Mencacci's goal that came in the 71st minute.  Mencacci's goal was assisted by Andrea Soto (Ft. Worth, Texas) for her first career assist. Austin answered quickly with a goal in the 74th minute on a header by Daija Campbell, assisted by Hallie Dickerson. After that only one more shot was taken in the game by either team. Austin's Brittany Hutton put a shot on goal that was saved by UD goalie Macey Henderson (San Antonio, Texas) in the 88th minute on the last equalizing attempt of the game.

Dallas with the win improves to 3-2-0 (3-2-0) and with the loss Austin drops to 0-4-1 (0-4-1). UD plays their final road game of the season next Thursday, April 1 against St. Thomas University.  Game time will be at 3:00 p.m. CST.
