This Week in 'Roo Athletics

It's a busy weekend ahead for Austin College athletics, with not only winter sports action continuing but also multiple spring sports teams kicking off their seasons both at home and on the road.

Things get rolling on Friday evening in Hughey Gym, as the Austin College basketball teams take to the court against the University of St. Thomas in a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games. The women take the court at 6:00 p.m., with the men following at 8:00 p.m.

The women's game will be the team's Pink Game to raise awareness for breast cancer research, and also at halftime of that game, this year's Modern Woodmen Student-Athletes of the Week will be recognized for their accomplishments.

Saturday will see the basketball teams back in action for another SCAC doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m. against Centenary, with the women once again playing first while the men will follow at 6:00 p.m.

The men's and women's tennis teams are also home on Saturday to open up their season, and they'll be taking on non-conference opponent Texas A&M-Texarkana with those matches scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. Both teams will then head out on the road on Sunday, traveling to Abilene to take on McMurry University.

The women's water polo team also kicks off its season this weekend, with the 'Roos heading to Providence, R.I. to compete in the Bruno Classic, where they'll face a quartet of Division I opponents. First up are Bucknell and Long Island University on Saturday, followed by games against Marist and host school Brown University on Sunday.

Wrapping up the weekend is the 'Roo STUNT team in a trio of competitions against Texas Woman's University, first with a road match-up on Saturday before taking on TWU twice on Sunday in Hughey Gym beginning at 1:00 p.m.
