Hughey Gym Court to be Named in Honor of Jim Rolfe

Hughey Gym Court to be Named in Honor of Jim Rolfe

Hughey Gymnasium, home to Austin College men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs for the past 70 years, will be receiving significant upgrades including the newly named "Jim Rolfe Court" in honor of the 1965 graduate and former Austin College men's basketball player who moved on to an esteemed career in the legal field spanning over five decades. The existing court, which is the original court that was installed when the gymnasium was built, will be replaced prior to the 2020-2021 seasons.

Thanks to the tremendous outpouring of support from friends of Jim Rolfe from his time as a student-athlete at and service as an alumnus to the College, as well as throughout his decorated legal career, Austin College is excited to honor him through the new court surface. A celebration to honor Jim Rolfe, supporters of this project, and the dedication will take place on Saturday, February 15 in conjunction with senior day for both Austin College basketball teams. More information will be shared as the date approaches.

"It is an honor to recognize Jim's remarkable impact on Austin College, our student-athletes, and his entire network of family and friends with the naming of the 'Jim Rolfe Court'," said Austin College President Steven O'Day.

"I cannot think of a better name to permanently place on the Hughey Gymnasium court," added David Norman, Director of Athletics. Jim Rolfe has been a longstanding supporter of Austin College Athletics and has represented his alma mater at the highest level throughout the years."

Once fundraising for this project is complete and the basketball seasons have concluded, Austin College will finalize a renovation schedule that will accomplish all enhancements by the start of the 2020-2021 seasons.
