AC Athletics Update 4/12/2019

Exactly one month to go before the start of exams, #RooNation.  And as we have mentioned over the last few weeks, with the closing of the school year comes the Conference Championships push.

We begin with our Nationally Ranked Women’s Water Polo squad competing in the CWPA Tournament today and tomorrow in New London, Connecticut, facing Penn State – Behrend in the first round.

Softball hosts their Senior Day today as their final regular season competitions against Southwestern at Old Settlers Park.

Then next weekend, April 19th – 21st, the regionally ranked Men’s and Women’s Tennis are hosting the championships on the newly constructed tennis courts on the northwest side of campus.  But before then, they have the Battle for North Texas at UT-Dallas this Friday and Sunday.

Men’s and Women’s Distance Track competes in their SCAC Championship Meet in San Antonio, TX the following weekend, as Baseball plays their final regular season games against Dallas at the same time, currently on 3.5 games out of Championship qualification.

We’ll get to all that and more in subsequent editions of the AC Athletics Update.  But for now, let’s talk about this weekend as 4 of our teams are in competition, with Softball hosting its Senior Day today at 5:30PM & 7:30PM!

Women’s Water Polo

What a way to kick off Championships Season with the inaugural season of Women’s Water Polo in Texas.  Although we won’t be hosting this year, AC has made us proud throughout their season, posting a 6-8 record, 5-3 in the Conference since March, securing the #2-seed!

Penn State – Behrend is the first competitor in the crosshairs for the Kangaroos, so go to www.acroos.com to watch live action of the CWPA Tournament starting at 2:30PM today.

  • Friday, April 12th, 2019 – Sunday, April 14th (CWPA Tournament)
    • Neutral vs. Penn State Behrend at 2:30PM Central
      • Winner advances to semi-finals on Saturday, April 13th at 12:30PM Central

Softball

Congratulations to the Women’s Softball Team for snagging their first win of the season over an SCAC Opponent last weekend, defeating Dallas on the road 10-8 before falling 6-5 in game 2.

This is the start of great things to come for Coach Sylvester and the Kangaroos as they honor their seniors at home in their final regular season contests.  The Southwestern Pirates are in town, and are ranked #25 in the nation.  Prime opportunity for an upset with your support, #RooNation.  Let’s send our Seniors off in style today at 5:30PM and 7:30PM at Old Settlers Park!

Men’s & Women’s Tennis

We’ve said it before, and we will say it again…Please mark your calendars to come support Austin College Men’s & Women’s Tennis as they host the SCAC Championships on the brand new facility adjacent from the Jordan Family Language House, April 19th, 20th, and 21st.  Our Student-Athletes have been anxiously awaiting this weekend so they may showcase all of their hard work from throughout the season.

But before that, we need to congratulate the Netters for going 4-0 collectively in a big way last weekend, dropping only 1 court out of 29 matches against Colorado College (Men: 8-1, Women: 9-0) and Texas Lutheran (Men: 6-0, Women: 5-0).

We also need to wish them luck in their final regular season competitions as the Men hope to overturn two previous 5-4 defeats to UT-Dallas tonight at 6:30PM in Richardson, while the Women hope to remain unblemished against the Comets in 4-straight attempts on Sunday at 12:00PM.

All the updates and next week’s tournament info will be available on Twitter: @ACRoosMWTennis.  So keep your weekend open from April 19-21 and keep your devices handy in-between trips to the library this weekend.
