AC Athletics Update - Homecoming Edition

It’s homecoming weekend, Austin College.  Soon there will be generations of #RooNation past, present, and future all on the same campus in support of our College and our Athletics Teams.

Homecoming will also mark the “Home-Openers” of all three Winter Sports programs sponsored by Austin College AthleticsMen’s & Women’s Basketball open with Howard Payne on Friday, and Swimming & Diving opens in Hannah Natatorium with Ozarks on Saturday.

Then, the final Fall Sport competition of the year takes place on the gridiron as the Kangaroos face off with Rhodes at Jerry Apple Stadium.

We’ll cover all this and more in our final Fall installment of the AC Athletics Update.

Men’s & Women’s Basketball

Basketball is back at AC.  The Yellow Jackets from Howard Payne University come to Hughey Gymnasium to battle the Kangaroos on the hardwood.  Kick off the Homecoming the festivities the right way by joining your Alumni, Faculty, Staff, and Students in support of our Men’s & Women’s Basketball Teams.

Men’s & Women’s Swimming and Diving

Swimming & Diving took second place in the Men’s and fourth place in the Women’s events in the 51st Annual Hendrix Classic in Conway, Arkansas last weekend.  Colton Baker won both the 1 & 3-meter diving events, with Chris Hill, Chris Brown, and Max Saenz taking a third place finish each.

Brooke Le took fourth for the Women in the 50-freestyle and Sophie Garriga took fifth in the 200 butterfly in the meet.

This weekend AC hosts the Eagles from the University of the Ozarks in Hannah Natatorium for their home opener.  Come out to the Mason Complex and cheer on our Kangaroos this Saturday at 11:00AM!

Football

The Trinity University Tigers won a tough 14-0 game last weekend.  The defense was stellar on both sides as both teams forced at least two turnovers and three quarterback sacks.

But now we turn our attention to the final game of the season, and it’s played in front of our home crowd.  Pack the stands at Jerry Apple Stadium this weekend and cheer on our Kangaroos to victory against a familiar foe in the Rhodes College Lynx.

Women’s Volleyball

Volleyball played a great game against Southwestern in the first round of the SCAC Volleyball Tournament, but fell 3 sets to 2.

With an incredibly strong strength of schedule, AC picked up 16 wins on the season, and have a strong corps of returning players for the 2019 season.  Congratulations on a great year, ‘Roos.  We can’t wait to see you play again next season.

Men’s Soccer

AC fell to the eventual SCAC Champions in the first round of the Men’s Soccer Championships 2-0 to close out their season.  In a year with 5 games lost to inclement weather concerns, our Kangaroos finished with a record of 7-6-3 (6-5-2 SCAC).

Congratulations to our very own Joseph Khalaf for receiving the inaugural SCAC Elite 19 Award, given to a student-athlete that has a cumulative GPA of 3.25, 60 credit hours, and earns All-SCAC honors that eason.

“Great season” to the Kangaroos and Head Coach Mark Hudson.  We are very proud of you, and can’t wait to see what 2019 will bring us.

We have all of our active teams in action at home this weekend, #RooNation.  Here is your projected schedule.
