'Roos Top Connecticut College, Fall to D1 Cal State Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Austin College women's water polo team cruised to a 14-6 victory over NCAA Division III foe Connecticut College on Tuesday, before falling to Division I opponent Cal State Northridge 20-3 on the team's first day of action on their spring break trip to California.

In game one, the 'Roos grabbed a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 6-2 edge into halftime and putting the game away with a 6-goal fourth quarter. Presley Woods led the way for Austin College offensively, scoring six goals in the win while Brooke Le, Shannon Berry, and Kendall Katusak each scored two. Valery Piachonkina had 13 blocks in goal for the 'Roos.

Against the host school, Le put Austin College ahead 1-0 early and the game was squared up at 1-1 after the first quarter, but Northridge - ranked No. 20 in Division I - took control from there, scoring eight goals in the second quarter and then taking a 13-2 lead into the fourth. Le scored two goals for Austin College and Woods added one more, while Piachonkina had nine blocks.
