Austin College Volleyball Tops Southwestern

SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team defeated Southwestern for the first time since 2007 to earn third place at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday, snapping a 22-match skid against the Pirates with a 3-1 victory. The 'Roos finish the season with an overall record of 18-22.

Southwestern took the first set 25-23, but Austin College battled back to take three in a row by scores of 25-22, 26-24, 25-23 to earn the victory. The 'Roos hit .164 as a team in the victory, including .268 in the match-clinching fourth set. Christine Royalty had 14 kills and a .417 hitting percentage to lead the 'Roos on her way to being named to the All-Tournament Team, and Shelbi Cook added 10 kills. Brooklyn Talley led Austin College with 15 assists and added 11 digs, while Allison Pierce had 14 assists and also recorded 11 digs. Hannah Arbaugh paced the 'Roos defensively with 17 digs and also had seven kills and five service aces, and Austin College had 10 aces as a team to help secure the win. Mari Prazak chipped in 15 digs and Caitlin Mahoney had seven kills for the 'Roos.
