Austin College Volleyball Falls Twice

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team fell 3-1 in each of its matches on Saturday, wrapping up the 24th Annual Austin College Classic with defeats against Nebraska Wesleyan and LeTourneau. The 'Roos are now 0-4 to begin the 2019 campaign.

Against Nebraska Wesleyan, the Prairie Wolves took a 25-19 first set win before Austin College battled to a 26-24 set two victory. However, Nebraska Wesleyan would take 25-21 and 25-20 wins in sets three and four to clinch the match. Shelbi Cook and Christine Royalty each had nine kills for Austin College, and Mari Prazak had 30 digs to lead the 'Roos. Brooklyn Talley had 25 assists and 16 digs, but the 'Roos ended the match hitting just .129 with 12 service errors as a team.

In the final match of the day against LeTourneau, Austin College held off the YellowJackets for a 26-24 set one win before falling in a back-and-forth second set by a score of 28-30. LeTourneau closed out the match with wins of 25-21 and 25-19 in the final two sets. Once again, service errors played a big role as the 'Roos had 13 in the defeat. Royalty and Bri Williams each had 12 kills to lead the 'Roos, and Royalty added three block solos and five block assists. Prazak had 26 digs, while Talley had 37 assists and 13 digs. Abigail Teicher added 10 kills and Allison Pierce had 13 assists and 12 digs.

The 'Roos will be looking to rebound next weekend when they host Paul Quinn College and Sul Ross State on Friday, and then take on Sul Ross and Howard Payne on Saturday in Hughey Gym.
