'Roos Drop Two to Open AC Classic

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team fell twice on day one of the 24th Annual Austin College Classic on Friday, dropping a 3-2 match to East Texas Baptist before falling 3-1 to Concordia-Texas. The 'Roos will be looking to bounce back tomorrow when they take on Nebraska Wesleyan and LeTourneau to wrap up the tournament.

In the team's first match of the day, Austin College took a dominant early lead, winning 25-13 in the first set and holding off the Tigers for a 25-23 second set victory. However, ETBU rallied back with a 25-17 third set win and then squared things up with a 26-24 win in set four, before closing things out with an 18-16 win in the fifth set. Christine Royalty led the 'Roos with 13 kills and five total blocks, while Bri Williams and Shelbi Cook also posted 13 kills. Williams added 16 digs.

Mari Prazak paced Austin College with 32 digs and added four service aces, while Allison Pierce and Brooklyn Talley had 21 and 20 assists, respectively. Pierce also contributed 17 digs in the loss.

Against Concordia, the 'Roos once again took an early lead, winning 25-19 in the first set before dropping three straight by scores of 22-25, 13-25, 14-25. Cook had 12 kills to lead Austin College, and Prazak once again led the 'Roos with 16 digs. Pierce had 10 assists and 12 digs, and Talley added 12 assists.
