Volleyball Sweeps Day One of AC Invitational

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College volleyball team improved to 5-1 overall this season with a pair of victories on day one of the 21st Annual Austin College Invitational in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos topped Linfield College 3-1 before defeating Sul Ross 3-0 in the nightcap. 

In the first match of the day for the 'Roos, Austin College was dominant in the first set, winning 25-12, before dropping the second set 25-17 to Linfield. The 'Roos bounced back, winning the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-23. Mayson Kennon had a huge performance with 21 kills, adding eight digs and two service aces. Christine Royalty added 10 kills, while Brooklyn Talley led the way with 24 assists and Mari Prazak paced the 'Roos with 17 digs.

Against Sul Ross, the 'Roos once again started out dominant in the first set, taking it 25-15. However, the Lobos battled hard in the next two sets before Austin College was able to put them away by scores of 25-23 and 28-26. Kennon had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, and Kristen Massey added seven kills and three block assists. Talley again led the 'Roos with 18 assists, and Kayley LeBlanc had 15 digs. 

Austin College is back in action tomorrow, taking on East Texas Baptist at noon and McMurry at 4:00 p.m. to wrap up the tournament.
