'Roo Volleyball Splits on Day One of Austin College Classic

SHERMAN, Texas –The Austin College volleyball team opened up the season with a split on day one of the 23rdAnnual Austin College Classic, falling to Hendrix in five sets before topping Concordia-Texas 3-1.

In the first match, the 'Roos took the first set 25-18, and after falling 25-22 in the second set, bounced back with a 25-23 win in set three. Hendrix would take the fourth set 26-24, and clinched the match with a 15-13 fifth set win. Mayson Kennon paced the 'Roos with 12 kills and 21 digs, while Christine Royalty had 11 kills against just one attacking error. Mari Prazak had 19 digs, and Brooklyn Talley had 22 assists and seven digs. 

The 'Roos dropped their first set against Concordia 25-16, but took control from there, winning the next three by scores of 25-23, 25-16, 25-22 to earn their first win of the season. Kennon again led the way with nine kills, while Brooke Harris added eight and Royalty had seven. Kristen Massey had four block solos and five total blocks, and Kayley LeBlanc had a team-best 22 digs. Sam Fawcett led the 'Roos with 16 assists while Talley had 13 assists and 13 digs. 

Austin College is back in action tomorrow, taking on Millsaps at 11:00 a.m. and Louisiana College at 5:00 p.m. in Hughey Gym.
