Austin College Mourns the Loss of Rebekah Bowden

The Austin College community is extremely saddened today to learn of the death of senior Rebekah Bowden of Flint, Texas, following a single vehicle accident in Sherman. A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Flint, Texas, Rebekah was a leader on the Austin College women's volleyball team. Her mother is Emily Smith and her father and stepmother are Rod Bowden and Grace Bowden. 

"On behalf of the entire Austin College community, we extend heartfelt condolences to the family of Rebekah Bowden and offer our thoughts and prayers at this time," said Austin College president Steven P. O'Day.  "We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss and will comfort and support one another on campus in this time." 

Women's volleyball coach Ed Garza said Rebekah was a shining light on the campus and that the thoughts and prayers of the entire Athletic Department are with Rebekah's family. Garza met with the team and students this morning regarding the tragic loss.
