'Roo Volleyball Splits Second Day in California

LA VERNE, Calif. - The Austin College volleyball team wrapped up its trip to California with a split of its two matches on Saturday, defeating the University of Scranton 3-1 before falling 3-1 to Whittier. The 'Roos are now 17-7 overall this year after going 3-1 this weekend.

Scranton entered Saturday's match with a record of 22-1, but Austin College rushed out to a 2-0 lead after winning the first two sets 25-16 and 25-19. Scranton forced a fourth set by winning the third 25-20, but the 'Roos bounced back and clinched the victory with a 25-23 fourth set win. Mayson Kennon notched 20 kills in the victory, while Kristen Massey added eight. Katie Ingle and Rebekah Bowden each had seven kills, with Ingle also leading Austin College with 46 assists and adding 13 digs. Tatiana Ferrari paced the 'Roos with 20 digs in the win.

In the final match of the weekend for the 'Roos, Whittier took the first two sets 25-16 and 25-19 before Austin College took set three 25-19. The 'Roos seemed poised to force a fifth set after they took a 17-11 lead in the fourth, but Whittier out-scored Austin College 14-1 the rest of the way to clinch the match with a 25-18 fourth set win. Kennon again led the 'Roos with 14 kills, and Ingle had eight kills and 33 assists. Massey added seven kills, while Bowden and Hannah Arbaugh had six apiece. Madi McVay led the 'Roos with 12 digs in the loss.
