'Roo Volleyball Tops Concordia and Occidental

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College volleyball team notched a pair of victories on day one of the Austin College Invitational, defeating Concordia-Texas 3-1 before coming from behind to top Occidental 3-2 in the nightcap. The 'Roos are now 5-1 overall this season with the wins. 

Mayson Kennon registered 15 kills with a .407 hitting percentage in just three sets to lead Austin College past Concordia by scores of 25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19. Dani DeWitt added 10 kills in the win as the 'Roos had a .227 hitting percentage as a team in the match. Katie Ingle had 32 assists, and Madi McVay came up with 27 digs to pace the 'Roos in that category. Brooke Harris added nine kills and 17 digs.

In the final game of the evening against Occidental, the 'Roos used a stellar defensive effort to earn a 25-20, 16-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-13 win over the Tigers. Rebekah Bowden had 11 total blocks, including three solo blocks, as the 'Roos racked up 20 block assists in the game. Kristen Massey added two block solos and two block assists. Kennon once again led the 'Roos with 13 kills, while Ingle had 26 assists and 12 digs. Tatiana Ferrari led the way with 20 digs in the win.

Austin College is back in action tomorrow when they take on LeTourneau and Louisiana College on the second and final day of the Austin College Invitational in Hughey Gym.
