'Roos Split on Day One of AC Classic

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College volleyball team split its two matches on the opening day of the 21st Annual Austin College Classic on Friday, falling 3-1 to Mary Hardin-Baylor before bouncing back with a 3-1 win over McMurry University to close out the night. The 'Roos are now 3-1 overall this season.

Austin College fell by scores of 22-25, 25-20, 13-25, 20-25 against the Crusaders for their first loss of the season. Dani DeWitt had 14 kills and Rebekah Bowden had 10 kills and six total blocks to pace the 'Roos, and Katie Ingle had 34 assists and 17 digs in the loss. Madi McVay added 18 digs and Presleigh Watson had six kills and six total blocks.

In the nightcap, the 'Roos won by scores of 25-19, 28-30, 25-23, and 25-23 in a hard fought victory. Watson had a big match with 15 kills and four block assists, and Bowden added 11 kills and six total blocks. Ingle had another strong performance with 43 assists and 10 digs, and McVay once again led Austin College with 15 digs.

The 'Roos will look to carry the momentum from the victory over McMurry into Saturday's matches, with the team set to face Texas-Tyler at 1:00 p.m. and LeTourneau at 5:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
