Volleyball Tops Pacific and Sul Ross to Open Season

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College volleyball team got off to a strong start in the 2016 season, sweeping Pacific University and Sul Ross State by scores of 3-0 on Thursday night in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are 2-0 to open the year as they prepare to host the 21st Annual Austin College Classic this weekend.

In the first match of the night, the 'Roos cruised to a 25-12 set one victory before holding off Pacific for 25-22 and 25-19 wins in sets two and three. Rebekah Bowden paced the 'Roos with 11 kills and added four block assists, while Dani DeWitt had nine kills, five digs, and three block assists. Madison Lee had seven kills and Presleigh Watson had six, and Katie Ingle had 29 assists. Tatiana Ferrari and Madi McVay had 12 and 11 digs, respectively. 

The 'Roos once again got out to a hot start in the second match of the evening against Sul Ross, winning 25-9 in set one before taking 25-16 and 25-19 wins in the final two sets to complete the sweep. Watson had 10 kills to lead the 'Roos, while Bowden had seven kills in nine attempts for a .778 hitting percentage. Ingle once again had 29 assists, adding five kills and nine digs. Ferrari led the way with 10 digs.

Austin College is back in action tomorrow night when they face Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6:00 p.m., followed by an 8:00 p.m. match against McMurry.
