Garza Notches 500th Win as 'Roos Win Two

SHERMAN, Texas – Austin College volleyball coach Ed Garza earned his 500th career victory on the sideline for the 'Roos in a 3-0 win over Macalester in their opening match of the 20th Annual Austin College Classic, and the 'Roos capped off the day with a 3-1 win over Sul Ross to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The 'Roos got off to a hot start against Macalester, taking the first set 25-13, and never looked back with wins of 26-24 and 25-15 to earn the straight set win. Presleigh Watson and Rebekah Bowden each had eight kills to lead the 'Roos, and Bowden added eight total blocks, including four solo blocks. Watson added five total blocks as Austin College dominated at the net, notching seven solo blocks and 14 assisted blocks as a team. Katie Ingle had 21 assists and Rachel Fusselman had 27 digs to pace the 'Roos.

In the night cap, Austin College picked up a 25-18 win in the first set before the Lobos took set two 25-22. Austin College rallied for a 25-21 third set victory, and cruised to a 25-11 win to get the victory. Dani DeWitt had 13 kills, while four other players – Bowden, Watson, Ingle, and Reygan Holloman – each had nine kills. Ingle added 23 assists and 10 digs, and Fusselman again led the way with 28 digs. Chandler Sherman had 25 assists to lead the 'Roos.
