Volleyball Splits on Day One of AC Classic

The Austin College volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of the 19th Annual Austin College Classic on Friday, falling 3-1 against the University of Texas-Tyler before topping LeTourneau 3-1. The 'Roos are now 7-1 overall this season.

In the team's first match of the day against UTT, the 'Roos fell 33-31 in an epic opening set, and after falling behind 19-14 in set two the 'Roos rallied to take a 25-23 win. However, the Patriots would win the final two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-16 to hand Austin College its first loss of the season.

Presleigh Watson had 15 kills and six total blocks to lead the way for Austin College, and Madison Lee added 12 kills and 11 digs. Reygan Holloman added 11 kills, Lauren Wulz led the way with 26 assists, and Rachel Fusselman had a team-best 18 digs in the loss.

The 'Roos rebounded with a victory in the final match of the day against LeTourneau, cruising to a 25-11 win in set one before battling to a 26-24 win in the second set. LeTourneau came storming back with a 25-15 win in the third set but Austin College held off the Jackets with a 25-23 fourth set victory.

Watson again led the team with 12 kills and four total blocks, and Rebecca Franklin added 11 kills in the victory. Lee added seven kills and 12 digs and Wulz once again finished with 26 assists, while Fusselman once again led Austin College with 21 digs in the win.

Austin College hits the court for three matches tomorrow, taking on Sul Ross State at 11:00 a.m., Howard Payne at 1:00 p.m., and UT-Dallas at 5:00 p.m. in the final match of the Austin College Classic.
