Volleyball Wins Two of Three on Day Two of AC Classic

The Austin College volleyball team won its first two matches before falling to the University of Texas-Dallas on day two of the Austin College Classic, bringing the team's overall record to 9-2 this season. The 'Roos went 3-2 over the course of the two day tournament.

The 'Roos started the day with a rematch of last week's epic showdown with Sul Ross State, and once again the 'Roos and Lobos went back and forth in the match with SRSU taking a 2-1 lead and looking to close it out the match, taking a 23-16 lead in the fourth set before Austin College rallied back to win 29-27, and the 'Roos won 15-11 in the fifth set to take the match.

Madison Lee led the 'Roos with 11 kills and 11 digs, and Presleigh Watson added 10 kills and seven total blocks in the victory. Dani DeWitt and Rebecca Franklin each had nine kills, while Lauren Wulz had 31 assists and Rachel Fusselman had a team-best 19 digs.

In the second match of the day, Austin College cruised to a 25-23, 25-9, 25-19 victory over Howard Payne behind nine kills from Franklin and six from DeWitt, who boasted a .545 hitting percentage in the match. Wulz once again led the team with 20 assists, and Fusselman had 11 digs to lead the way for Austin College. As a team, Austin College had a .259 hitting percentage compared to just .040 for HPU.

Austin College closed out the weekend with a 24-26, 12-25, 14-25 to UTD, as the 'Roos had a team hitting percentage of just .091, while the Comets boasted a .304 percentage. Franklin led the team with nine kills and added five total blocks, and Watson added five kills and four block assists. Wulz finished with 14 assists and Fusselman had 13 digs in the loss.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
