'Roo Volleyball Splits Two on First Day of AC Classic

The Austin College volleyball team split its first two matches at the 18th Annual Austin College Classic on Friday, falling 3-0 to Wheaton College before rolling past Sul Ross State by a final of 3-0. The 'Roos are now 5-3 on the year heading into day two tomorrow.

In the first match, Wheaton took a commanding lead early and the 'Roos were unable to counter as they fell 13-25, 21-25, 13-25. Shelby Eaves led Austin College with 11 kills and added seven digs, and Alyssa Pruett added 12 digs in the loss. Kelsey Klingler had a team-best 15 assists.

Against Sul Ross, the 'Roos were dominant from start to finish in a 25-15, 25-11, 25-10 victory with Eaves once again leading the way with 13 kills and eight digs. Bekah Newberry added seven kills, Pruett had nine digs, and Klingler had 17 assists in the victory.

Austin College is back in action early tomorrow as they take on Southwestern Assemblies of God at 9:00 a.m. and will close out the tournament at 3:00 p.m. when they face Concordia.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
