#15 Women's Tennis Opens 17-18 With 8-1 Win Over TAMU-T

SHERMAN, Tex. - The Austin College Kangaroos were dominant in their 2017-18 opening dual match vs. Texas A&M University - Texarkana, winning 8-1 with 4 new 'Roos picking up their first AC victories.

The Kangaroos swept women's doubles with three new Kangaroos logging their first intercollegiate and/or Austin College victories of their careers.  Diana Carvajalino picked up her first doubles victory for Austin College with Anna Sergiovanni 8-3 at Line 2 Doubles.  Melody Duong teamed with senior Grace Ortiz for her first collegiate doubles victory 8-3 at Line 3.  And Victoria Gilbert won a 9-8 (6) thriller with junior Kirsten Weber for her first collegiate doubles win.

Carvajalino remained dominant on the singles court, pushing Austin College to a 4-0 lead over the Eagles 6-1, 6-2, and Sergiovanni clinched the match for AC 6-2, 6-2 at Line 1.

Gilbert found herself in another nail-biter at line 2, dropping the first set in her singles match, but prevailing in her first collegiate singles match 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7).

Katie Seibert moved the score to 7-0 with her 6-3, 6-2 line 4 victory, and Georgia Moore won the eighth point on the day for her first collegiate and Austin College singles victory 6-4, 7-5 at Line 6.

Chandler Morris played a competitive line 5 match for AC, but fell 6-4, 7-5 to her Eagle counterpart.

Austin College will return to the practice courts in preparation for the upcoming UT-Dallas Invitational, set for this Friday through Sunday, September 15-17 in Richardson, TX.  September 15th is set to begin at 6:00PM.
