2017-18 ITA Awards Include 13 Austin College Tennis Players, Both Teams

TEMPE, Ariz - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2017-18 All-Academic Awards, and the list included 13 Men's and Women's Tennis Players, as well as both Men's and Women's Tennis Teams collectively.

The Women's Tennis Team earned a rare "clean sweep," as every member of the 2017-18 roster earned "Scholar Athlete" Designation by the ITA, and the Team earned a spot as an "All-Academic Team" for its third consecutive year.  THis also marks the third year that the Women's Tennis Team earned the Academic Excellence Award at the Austin College Athletics Banquet for the Top Cumulative GPA in the College.

Men's Tennis also named 5 members of the 17-18 squad to the list of Scholar Athletes, and earned their third consecutive designation as an All-Tournament Team.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2016 and spring 2017).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
