Seniors Claim 7-2 Victory over LeTourneau

SHERMAN, Tex. - After the heartbreaking defeat to the WarHawks of McMurry, the Austin College Kangaroos bounced back on the tennis courts to defeat the YellowJackets of LeTourneau University 7-2.

All five seniors started the doubles and singles portions of the match, with each court competing hard for every point.

Magan Green and Kate Willis made short work of Line 3 doubles, winning 8-2.  Grace Ortiz and Anamariia Kheveli followed suit with a lengthy victory at Line 1 over a tough LeTourneau tandem to put the Women up 2-1 going into singles competition.

Green would acheive similar success on the singles court without dropping a game in two sets at Line 4.  Kheveli was close behind at Line 2 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.  Katie Barber and Willis cruised to straight set victories at Lines 5 & 6 respectively, and Carlye Lide fought valiantly, but fell in a competitive third-set match.

Kirsten Weber, playing her third Line 1 singles match of the weekend, fought hard to claim an exhausting victory over an athletic and powerful competitor for the YellowJackets.  The first set went in Weber's favor by way of a tie breaker, but the LeTourneau #1 fought hard to claim the second.

Weber found herself down early in the super tiebreaker, but found a way to win the final three straight points to win 10-8 and seal the 7-2 victory for the Roos.

Austin College hits the road for their continuation of SCAC competition in two weeks as they face Southwestern on Friday, April 7th at 6:00pm in Georgetown, TX.
