BELTON, Texas – The Austin College women's tennis team moved to 5-4 on the 2016 spring season with a come-from-behind victory over the Crusaders of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
After falling behind 2-0 with losses at Line 3 and Line 2 Doubles, the Line 1 Doubles combo of Ortiz & Weber prevented the sweep by capitalizing on the early lead they gained at the beginning of the match, logging an 8-6 victory.
Grace Ortiz may have had no problem turning her success on the doubles court into a decisive victory on the Line 2 singles court, but Meghan White and Anamariia Kheveli dropped quick first sets to the Crusaders at Line 3 and Line 4.
Shortly thereafter, Kirsten Weber dropped her second set with the match still tied at 2-2. Kheveli dropped her second set, and UMHB took a 3-2 lead with two courts still waiting to begin play.
But the 'Roos would not drop another set after overcoming the precarious situation in which they found themselves. Weber would roll to a 6-1 third set decision, White would win her second and third sets 6-2, 6-1, Carlye Lide would roll to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at Line 5 for the clinch, and Magan Green would seal the match with a victory at Line 6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Kangaroo women's tennis team returns home in their next scheduled duel match, facing the Ladies of Centenary College on April 2 at 1:00 PM.
