SHERMAN, Tex. - The Austin College Women's Tennis Team dropped their home opener this past Saturday to the Southwestern University Pirates, 7-2.
However, the loss was encouraging as the Lady 'Roos improved in an area they have previously struggled under Coach Dodd's tenure. Kirsten Weber and Grace Ortiz picked up a win at Line 1 Doubles over the formidable Schneeman/Moeller (SWU) 9-7 to keep the score close at the completion of doubles play.
Meghan White stayed undefeated on the year at Line 3 Singles, winning in an epic 3-setter over Martinez, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, and Weber nearly rectified a defeat from September when she took the first set against Drews Jones 6-4, fell in a close 5-7, 0-6 decision in the second and third sets.
Austin College returns to the road this weekend to face the University of Texas at Tyler and LeTourneau University on Saturday at 9am and 3pm in Tyler, TX and Longview, TX respectively.
