Austin College Women Perform Well in Narrow Loss to Simpson

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's swimming and diving team had a strong showing against Simpson College as the 'Roos hosted a dual meet on Thursday evening, but it wasn't quite enough to come away with the victory in a 92-79 defeat.

Austin College had several first place finishes at the meet, including a 200 medley relay win by the team of Jennifer Liang, Katie Voelkel, Sophie Garriga, and Matea Stanisic, who came in with a time of 2:09.24. Sarah Edzards won the 1000 freestyle, touching with a time of 12:38.92, and Garriga came in with a time of 2:10.33 to win the 200 freestyle. Garriga would add another win in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:08.23, and Edzards would also add another victory with a time of 6:12.75 in the 500 freestyle.

The 'Roos also got second place finishes from Voelkel in the 200 yard freestyle, and Brittany Maynard placed second in the 50 freestyle while Liang was third in that same event. Voelkel added another second place finish in the 100 freestyle, and Maynard was second in the 100 yard breaststroke.
