Southwestern Tops 'Roo Women's Swimming

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's swimming and diving team fell 169-73 to visiting Southwestern University on Saturday in a showdown between the two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference programs.

Sophie Garriga had a strong meet to lead the 'Roos, taking first in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:29.30 and adding a second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:29.35. Mandi Sarembock also had a second place finish, touching with a time of 3:04.91 in the 200 yard breastroke, and Sarah Edzards was second in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:44.55. Katherine Tuttle earned first place points in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, and Katie Voelkel was second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:23.22.

Edzards added a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle, and Voelkel was third in the 500 yard freestyle, while the team of Jennifer Liang, Edzards, Voelkel, and Matea Stanisic was third in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:51.90.
