KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team got an early goal from Samantha Reynolds and two late tallies from Emeri Watson on their way to defeating Schreiner University 3-1 on Friday afternoon, bringing the 'Roos to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Reynolds got Austin College on the board just over two minutes into the action, taking a free kick from nearly 40 yards out and managing to slot it into the top right corner to make it 1-0. That's how things would stand through most of the rest of the game, as Schreiner held a 4-2 shot advantage in the opening half and out-shot the 'Roos 10-6 overall but the Mountaineers were unable to square things up.
The 'Roo lead grew to 2-0 in the 86th minute, when Brittany Hutton played a ball through the Schreiner defense to Watson, who pushed a shot past Schreiner goalie Audrey Rivera, and Watson would tally again less than a minute later when a goal kick by keeper Kenedie Lane took a fortuitous bounce and enabled Watson to have a one on one situation with Rivera, lofting a shot over the Schreiner goalie to make it a 3-0 game. Schreiner would get a goal in the 88th minute to make it 3-1, and that's how things would end at the final horn. Lane made three saves for the 'Roos to go along with her assist.
