Centenary Bests 'Roo Women's Soccer

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision at Centenary on Friday evening, bringing the 'Roos to 0-9-1 overall and 0-7 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the year.

The game was scoreless for the first two-thirds of the opening half, but the Ladies got on the board in the 36th minute with a tally from Gabby McDonald and added a second goal six minutes later, this time off the foot of Haleigh Gangloff. That made the game 2-0 at the half, but the Ladies tacked on another goal in the 53rd minute to make it 3-0 before Emeri Watson found the back of the net for her first career goal at the 54:20 mark to cut it to a 3-1 game. Shelby Smith picked up the assist on Watson's score.

That's as close as the 'Roos would get, however, as Centenary added two more goals down the stretch, scoring twice in under a minute at the 62:49 and 63:37 marks to push it to a 5-1 game, and that's how things would end. Cynthia Williams and Celeste Muniz got the final two scores for the Ladies, respectively.

Austin College got 10 saves from Kenedie Lane and seven from Heaven Barber as the two keepers split time in goal, and Centenary held a 35-to-8 shot advantage in the match. The 'Roos are in action again on Sunday, as they take on St. Thomas in a road match in Houston.
