Women's Soccer Earns Draw with TLU

MELISSA, Texas –The Austin College women's soccer team battled Texas Lutheran to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon at Melissa ISD Cardinal Stadium, bringing the team's overall record to 0-11-1 and 0-7-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Play.

Austin College jumped on top early on, as Catalina Canizalez snuck a shot past the keeper inside the far post to make it 1-0 in the 15thminute of action. Texas Lutheran would counter in the 38thminute, however, with Bailey Nimtz launching a shot over the head of 'Roo keeper Maya Erwin from 40 yards out. That equalizer would send the teams into the half knotted at 1-1.

The 'Roos broke the tie just minutes into the second half, as Hallie Dickerson found Lina Cruz, who flicked a backward header over the keeper to make it 2-1 in the 51stminute. However, the lead would be short-lived as Texas Lutheran's Monique Sierra tallied less than three minutes later to even things up again.

Despite both teams finding scoring chances late in the game and into both overtime periods, the game would end in a 2-2 draw. The Bulldogs held a 16-to-14 advantage in shots, and Erwin finished the match making four saves for the 'Roos. Austin College plays its final home match of the season on Tuesday against Centenary, with game time currently set for 8:00 p.m.
