'Roo Women Will Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer on Sunday

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team will take the field sporting gold laces on Sunday during their match against Schreiner University, as the team raises awareness for pediatric cancer research. This is the second year in a row that the 'Roos will be supporting this initiative.

The gold laces are part of an initiative by Go4theGoal.org, an organization dedicated to helping children with cancer to achieve their goals. Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer was created in 2011 in New Jersey, with teams all across the country participating at various levels, including all across NCAA divisions. Teams purchase gold laces for $5, with $4 from each pair and 100% of all additional donations going directly to Go4theGoal's programs. Among those programs are financial assistance for families dealing with pedatric cancer, as well as grants for hospitals for "unique programs and events that improve patient experience and give kids something to look forward to."

The orgranization also helps provide finances for renovations to hospitals to make them more welcoming, comforting, and interactive for families of pediatric cancer patients, in addition to granting wishes for children battling cancer.
