'Roo Women Fall to Johnson & Wales

SHERMAN, Texas –The Austin College women's soccer team was edged by visiting Johnson & Wales University by a final score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon, dropping the 'Roos to 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College controlled possession for much of the game and finished with a 15-12 shot advantage, but in the 66thminute Jenna Bonfardine found Natasha Martin with a through ball, putting Martin one on one with 'Roo keeper Meredith Harris. Martin was able to push the ball inside the right post to put the Wildcats on top, and that's how things would stay.

Both teams put four shots on goal in the match, with both Harris and JWU keeper Katelyn Peters making three saves. The 'Roos also had one shot turned away by a defender, who managed to block the shot while Peters was out of position.

This week the 'Roos will play their first matches away from home, first at No. 12-ranked Trinity University on Friday in San Antonio.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
