Cruz's Late Tally Lifts 'Roo Women Past Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas – Karolina Cruz found the back of the net in the 88th minute of action to give Austin College a 1-0 victory over the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 4-11 overall and 3-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the win.

Austin College dominated possession for most of the game, holding Dallas without a shot for the first 26 minutes of action. The 'Roos out-shot the Crusaders 7-3 in the first half and 18-9 overall in the game, but were unable to find the back of the net through the opening period and well into the second half.

With just minutes remaining and the game seemingly headed to overtime, Anessa Tomblin carried the ball down the left sideline and fired a cross into the box, where Cruz headed it down to her feet and punched it in from point blank range at the 87:16 mark. Dallas was unable to counter and the 'Roos held on and inched closer to securing a bid in the SCAC Tournament.

Maya Erwin made seven saves for Austin College to earn the clean sheet, while Elena Naccari and Olivia Severson made two saves each splitting time in goal for the Crusaders.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
