'Roo Women Fall to Mary Hardin-Baylor

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College women's soccer team trailed just 2-0 at halftime, but four goals in the opening 20 minutes of the second half by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor put things out of reach in a 7-0 loss on Tuesday night at the Pierce Soccer Complex. Austin College falls to 3-11 overall with the defeat.

Caitlyn Shaughnessy put the Crusaders ahead just under 10 minutes into the game, and added her second goal in the 24th minute when she collected a long pass and chipped it over Austin College keeper Maya Erwin, who had come out to challenge. The score would remain 2-0 until early in the second half, when the Crusaders scored four times in just under 12 minutes beginning with a tally by Sarah Rempe at the 51:07 mark to make it 3-0.

The Crusaders would get a goal from Taylor Marques and another score from Rempe, and Chelsea Graham's goal at the 62:50 mark would make it a 6-0 game. Mary Hardin-Baylor added one more score in the 80th minute off the foot of Brooke Tatsch.

Austin College got several strong looks in the second half but was unable to put one in the net, as UMHB held a 29-9 shot advantage. Seven of Austin College's shots came after halftime. Erwin made six saves for the 'Roos.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
