'Roo Women's Soccer Falls to Schreiner

SHERMAN, Texas – An early penalty kick for Schreiner swung the momentum to the visiting Mountaineers and the Austin College women's soccer team was unable to get it back, falling 2-0 on Friday evening at the Dr. Jack Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex. The 'Roos are now 3-6 overall and 2-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College came out strong in the game's opening minutes but a penalty kick awarded at the 6:37 mark put the Mountaineers ahead 1-0 on a goal by Ruth Blackburn. Schreiner took control over the rest of the first half, tallying again in the 22nd minute when Kayla Mullen struck a 40 yard shot just under the crossbar to make it 2-0.

That would wind up being the last goal of the game, as both sides had several more chances but were unable to find the back of the net the rest of the way. Schreiner held a 15-12 edge in shots, with both teams putting five shots on goal in the match. Maya Erwin made three saves for Austin College. Austin College hosts No. 14-ranked Trinity on Sunday at noon.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
