Texas-Dallas Uses Big First Half to Top 'Roos

SHERMAN, Texas – The University of Texas-Dallas scored three first half goals and Austin College was unable to climb out of the three goal deficit, falling 4-1 on Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup. The 'Roos fall to 3-5 overall with the loss.

Melissa Fulfer got things started for the Comets with a tally in the 15th minute of action, and UTD would add another when Michelle Lee collected a pass in front of the goal-mouth and put it in the back of the net at the 24:10 mark. Texas-Dallas would add one more first half score when Jessica Rusk scored from 20 yards away in the 28th minute to make it 3-0 at halftime.

The Comets pushed the margin to 4-0 in the 54th minute when Fulfer collected the rebound off a point blank save from Maya Erwin and punched it in to make it 4-0. Austin College got on the board less than three minutes later, when Karolina Cruz's free kick from near the end-line curled into the net to make it a 4-1 game.

That's how things would end, as UTD held a 35-3 edge in shots in the match. Erwin made 15 saves for Austin College

The 'Roos get back into Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action this weekend when they host Schreiner University on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Both the women's and men's teams will also be taking part in a dedication of the field to the late Dr. Jack Pierce, as the soccer complex becomes officially named in his honor. The ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the women's match against the Mountaineers.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
