Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to LeTourneau

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College women's soccer team dropped its 2017 home opener, as LeTourneau punched in a penalty kick early in the second half and that would prove to be the difference in a 1-0 match. Austin College is now 1-3 this season with the loss.

Neither team was able to muster much offense early, taking a defensive battle into halftime with no score on the board. The Yellow Jackets held an 11-2 shot advantage in the opening half. LeTourneau would break the scoreless tie less than two minutes into the second half, however, as the Jackets drew a penalty kick at the 46:21 mark.

After Maya Erwin saved the initial penalty kick attempt by Kelli Sonnier, the official ruled that she had left the line early and granted LeTourneau a second opportunity. Sonnier made the most of it, putting the ball in the upper right for what would prove to be the only tally of the match.

LeTourneau finished the game with a 21-3 advantage in shots, with Ashley Lipe making six saves and Maya Erwin making three stops for Austin College. Carrye Funk made two stops for LeTourneau.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
