Women's Soccer Earns Road Win at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team notched its first victory of the young season, topping McMurry University 1-0 in a road match on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 1-1 overall this season.

It was a defensive battle for the majority of the game's 90 minutes, with McMurry holding a 13-6 shot advantage overall, including a 6-1 edge after halftime. Neither team was able to find the net in the opening half, but the 'Roos would take advantage of their lone shot attempt in the second half. In the 65th minute of action, Austin College broke through with Mackenzie Bolen finding Kristi Stevens for what woud prove to be the game's lone tally, giving the 'Roos a 1-0 cushion. Austin College would hold off McMurry's late efforts and emerge with the shutout victory.

Ashley Lipe and Maya Erwin combined for the shutout, with Lipe making one save in the first half and Erwin stopping two shots in the second half. Austin College opens up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, when they head to Shreveport to face Centenary.
