SHERMAN, Texas – Schreiner University would score twice before halftime and that would prove to be the difference, as the Austin College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the visiting Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 2-6-1 overall and 0-4-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Both teams got off to a slow start in rainy conditions, as neither side was able to find the net until the 33rd minute. That's when Alexis Overdiek tallied what would prove to be the game-winner, and Catalina Reyes would add another goal 10 minutes later off of assists from Ruth Blackburn and Laura Atzeni.
Austin College started to get into a bit more of an offensive rhythm in the second half, with six of the team's seven shots in the game coming after halftime. However, the 'Roos were unable to find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes of action.
Laura McGee made 10 saves for Austin College as Schreiner held a 20-7 edge in the shots category for the match.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
