'Roo Women Edged 1-0 by Schreiner

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to visiting Schreiner University on Friday afternoon, as the 'Roos were unable to equalize after falling behind late in the first half. The 'Roos are now 2-11-2 overall and 1-8-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos and Mountaineers each came out strong defensively, and neither team was able to find the net until Schreiner's Lindsey Fitz punched home a loose ball in the middle of a scrum off of a corner kick in the 37th minute of action. The tally would be enough to send Schreiner into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

It would also prove to be enough to give the Mountaineers the victory, as both defenses continued to play at a high level in the second half and neither side was able to score despite combining for 15 shots after halftime. Schreiner held an 18-14 shot advantage overall in the game, and Austin College keeper Laura McGee made eight saves.

Austin College is back in action on Sunday when they host No. 1-ranked Trinity University with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
